Baroque Transfigured:
Tommy Seah & Cygnus Arioso Strings
Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht and Webern’s Langsamer Satz are both early works inspired by love. Webern wrote his work whilst he’s a student of Schonberg, and the influence of Schoenberg’s work is clear. Both works are rooted in the late-romantic tradition, and predate the serial works that Schoenberg and Webern are known for. Despite their extreme differences, there are many parallels between the twelve-tone music of Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern, and the great Johann Sebastian Bach. Pianist Tommy Seah joins the Cygnus Arioso String Orchestra in two of Bach’s ingenious keyboard concertos.
